Coin collectors can learn a lot from online coin forums and social media groups. But, they must use a little common sense (like verify information and start small if buying from someone new) when using them.
Forums are discussion communities where users post and comment on topics of interest. Most require registration to join and agree to the rules of participation. Most numismatic forums have dedicated boards for different topics. For example, the modern coin forum sponsored by Modern Coin Mart has sections for all major numismatic topics including coins and tokens. Other popular coin forums include the PCGS message boards, NGC chat boards, Silverstackers and the Coin World forum. If you are not sure where to post a question, ask the moderator of the forum to move it to the appropriate board. Then you can get the answers you need from your fellow coin collectors.
