One of the most popular coins in coin collecting is the wheat penny, also known as the wheat cent. These coins can be worth much more than their face value. Even the most worn and rusted ones can be valuable collectibles. Moreover, the best condition wheat pennies can fetch are those that show minimal wear and tear. Generally, the value of a wheat penny depends on the condition of the coin. For example, a fine 1939 wheat coin can have scratches and minimal wear and tear, but the images remain unaltered.
In general, the value of a Wheat penny depends on its condition. In poor conditions, they are worth around three or four cents. In excellent condition, they can fetch upwards of $10. However, it is very rare to find a Wheat Penny that is in MS-63 condition. Finding such a rare coin can be a difficult task. If you are lucky enough, you might find it in the old family collection of your grandmother or a friend’s or in her stash during the holidays.
The 1943 cents should be minted using copper, bronze, and steel planchets, but the engraver’s initials were left out. In fact, a gold-plated Wheat penny is worth $10 or more! However, these rare coins can be as low as two cents in average condition. If you’re lucky enough to find one, you’ll probably be able to enjoy double-digit value.
